Training at BMA could save your child’s life

However, not in the manner you may imagine. Without a doubt, teaching your child martial arts will equip them with self-defense skills that could one day save their lives, but the greatest threat to their safety isn’t some terrible guy hiding around the corner.
The enemy that most kids now have to deal with on a daily basis is far more cunning. It may even keep children from growing up to be prosperous adults and deprive them of a joyful and healthy upbringing. This enemy is a lack of confidence, which can present with a variety of symptoms, including:

Your child’s success in life depends on their level of confidence, and BMA has been helping kids develop their confidence for more than 30 years!

  • Bad Grades
  • Getting into Trouble
  • Disrespectful Attitude to Others
  • Laziness
  • Being a Target for Bullying
  • Getting into Fights
  • Having Trouble making Friends
  • Shyness

Confidence is the key to success in your child’s life, and BMA has equipped children to become more confident for over 30 years!

A practical approach to karate

The Martial Arts programme at BMA takes a different tack from popular karate assumptions by providing a distinctive approach. We emphasise Classical Karate, which has its roots in the traditional form prior to commercialization, unlike many other dojos.

This style emphasises suitability for training students in schools by combining Okinawan Te with Chinese martial arts. We provide children with age-appropriate physical defence techniques and vital conflict-avoidance skills. In order to provide a secure and meaningful learning environment, we do not instruct children in dangerous methods like strangling or the use of weapons.

Traditional Karate (including our style, Koryu Uchinadi Kenpo-jutsu) is a non-sporting tradition that teaches age-appropriate defence techniques to prepare practitioners for uninvited acts of aggression. These may include

  • Kata (Model Examples & Postures)
  • Aiki Kenpo JuJutsu (Grappling & finishing holds)
  • Muchimi-di (Sticky-hand sensitivity drills fosters the skill of controlling the attacker by continually pressing, trapping and or hooking.
  • Tegumi (Two-person checking, trapping, & close-combat drills)
  • Kuzushi, Nage & Ukemi-waza (Balance Displacement, Throwing, Tumbling & Falling/Landing) as unfortunately, ending up on the ground, irrespective of how unwelcome the thought may be, is more than likely to happen in an actual physical confrontation.
  • Katame-waza (Lessons in Restraint/Immobilisation)
  • and with GOJU-RYU karate (Sensei’s background Karate for almost 30 years, he finds many aspects of the system beneficial for a lot of the students for discipline and learning good function of technique)

Above all, we ensure the kids follow the SSL program (Sweat, Smile & Learn), make our classes as active as possible, and mask many learning activities through FUN drills.
